Factory extension plans unveiled

TG Eakin Ltd has recently been granted planning permission to extend our County Down based headquarters which will lead to the creation of more than 25 new jobs.

TG Eakin Ltd has recently been granted planning permission to extend our County Down based headquarters which will lead to the creation of more than 25 new jobs. The £6 million investment will see a 5000m2 extension to the current premises at Ballystockart with the creation of five additional production lines.

The current factory at Ballystockart has already been extended twice to meet the growing demands of the business. Back in 2001 as Eakin began moving into more international markets, an extension to the factory premises was undertaken and then again in 2008 the office and factory premises were extended once again to coincide with the company’s significant growth.

The new extension which will double the size of the existing premises, is expected to start at the beginning of 2012 with an anticipated completion date of early 2013. To mark the granting of planning permission, Jim Shannon MP and Mayor of Ards Borough Council Alderman Mervyn Oswald visited the Factory to meet with staff and senior management and view for themselves the extension proposals.

Managing Director, Jeremy Eakin expressed his pride and satisfaction with the recent planning approval which he felt assured would lead to the next stage of development of TG Eakin Ltd.

“TG Eakin Ltd is both a family owned and locally based company and we are pleased that we are able to continue to remain at Ballystockart and bring additional employment to the area with this substantial investment. The extension to our premises will enable us to increase our production levels and continue to develop new products in order to maintain and hopefully increase our market share in a very competitive market.

Our company has seen significant development in recent years, with our turnover increasing by over 50% since 2009. We now export our products to over 30 countries worldwide. The cooperation of the Planning Department and local representatives has been a major factor in helping us achieve this result in these difficult times.”

Member of Parliament for the local area, Jim Shannon also commented:

“This project is one which I have been involved with for some time and I am delighted to see it coming to fruition. We are pleased to see the continued success of this local manufacturing based firm and welcome the news of its forthcoming expansion and the consequent creation of new jobs in the Co Down area. TG Eakin Ltd is a great example of a Northern Ireland company exporting and excelling on a worldwide level and all efforts should be made to support its continued success”.

Eakin Rebrand!

Happy New Year everyone! With the arrival of the new year, comes our new corporate branding. Our new website is a prime example of this.

Happy New Year everyone! With the arrival of the new year, comes our new corporate branding. You will see from our new logo that we have moved away from the multi-coloured branding, towards a cleaner, fresher purple, grey and white look. One of the reasons for this, was that when surveyed, a large number of our distributors could not recall the specific colours for each product group. We felt that our branding was becoming diluted as more products and colours came on board.

The first stage of rebranding is at a corporate level. This is evident on our new website and we invite you to explore some of the newest features such as the problem/solution section, the user guides, not forgetting your individual country page. Following a survey with our distributors last year, we have endeavoured to include as many of their suggestions as possible and we thank them for their contribution. We hope that they are happy with the end product.

The second stage of rebranding will be at a product level. From July 2011 you will begin to notice changes in Cohesive® packaging to bring it into line with the corporate brand. From November 2011, the Wound Pouches will follow. The remaining product groups will be rebranded during 2012.

These changes will happen gradually so that we can minimize wastage and we ask that you bear with us as we work through this process. The end result will be a fresh new look for TG Eakin Limited.

TG Eakin Limited is currently undertaking two development projects worth over £1.5million, supported by Invest NI.

The first will create a new stoma care product which aims to enhance the comfort of patients and the second will dramatically improve the company’s process capability.

Northern Ireland’s Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster visited the company’s premises today, to view the progress and enhancements made to date. The Minister commented: “TG Eakin has grown from a small local company to become a global supplier in the industry. This major investment by a family run company highlights its longstanding commitment to developing new highly advanced products for global markets.” “With over 80% of sales to export markets, the development of this latest medical device will support further growth, demonstrating the value of investing in innovation and R&D in driving business success.”

Jeremy Eakin, Managing Director of TG Eakin Limited, said: “The support and advice received from Invest NI to date has been of significant assistance as we identify and implement technological advances to manufacture this new high quality product. Using our knowledge base in the industry, we are confident this innovation has the potential to increase our global sales.”

Swedish Nurses visit St Mark’s Hospital, London

Åsa Gustavsson and Christina Schulz visited St. Mark’s Hospital in Harrow, North West London, on a research trip earlier this month along with our Swedish distributor Maud Jägerman of M Care.

Åsa and Christina, who are both stoma nurses in Linköping University Hospital in Southern Sweden, are trying to create a Fistula Centre of Excellence within their own hospital.

During their trip, they attended the Burdett Institute at St. Marks Hospital which provides education and carries out research into GI disorders and is also a Fistula Centre of Excellence in the UK.

The visit to London was funded by TG Eakin Ltd and arranged by Julia Williams, a Senior Lecturer in Gastrointestinal Nursing at the Burdett Institute of GI Nursing with King’s College, London and St. Mark’s Hospital, Harrow.

Jeremy Eakin, who met with the nurses during their visit said, “We are extremely grateful to the Burdett Institute for their help and support in hosting this visit for the Swedish nurses. In particular I would like to thank Julia Willams for her hospitality and for organising this event.

I know that Asa and Christina found this visit to St Marks hospital extremely beneficial and they learned a great deal during their visit. I wish them well in their efforts to make the University Hospital of Linköping a Fistula Centre of Excellence”.

Welcoming New Distributors

Steri…way have taken over distribution of Eakin products in Czech Republic from September 2009. EuroMedical Distribution Group are a new distribution channel in Romania.

A warm welcome to 2 new distributors who have joined us recently.

Both companies are distributing the whole range of eakin products including Cohesive® Seals, SLIMS®, Cohesive® Paste, Wound Pouches, Pelican Pouches and accessory products.

Mary Rickard visited Romania in September to provide training to EuroMedical staff and to introduce nurses and representatives from the ostomy field to the Eakin products which are entirely new to Romania.

The group also took part in a ‘Cohesive® Mouldability’ competition where they were required to mould an animal from an eakin Cohesive® Seal, to emphasise how mouldable the Cohesive® products are.

North European Distributors‘ Meeting

Posted on

Thank you to our North European Distributors, Arja Airosto, Juha Saukkonen, Kaj Lund, Maud Jägerman and Wim Rust, who made their way through the snow to join us for a distributors’ meeting.

We were sorry that our Norwegian distributor Medeco could not attend and hope they will come to visit us when the opportunity arises.

We had a full programme of activities over the 2 days, ranging from company updates, tour of the factory, R&D, marketing and business development workshops. The meeting was not ‘all work and no play’; our guests enjoyed sampling some local seafood and an authentic ‘black taxi’ tour of Belfast.

The meeting was designed to be interactive. From our side, we wanted to share our innovation and our vision for TG Eakin Limited for the years to come. We sought to gain input on market and product feedback and provide a forum for our distributors to exchange their ideas for best practice.

These suggestions were all gratefully received and we will be putting considerable emphasis on developing these areas of our business.
